Hello! My name is Doug Hatten. I am an artist and a writer exploring digital photography as an amateur for the last decade. I spent years photographing nature and wildlife. I am now branching into photography of human subjects as part of my artistic venture. This is an artistic interest more than a business.
I believe a camera is to a photographer what brushes, paints and canvas are to an artist. Having the right tools can really help. However, a master painter can take inferior materials and still make a beautiful painting, while a novice can have a fuller set of brushes and expensive paints and yet fail to produce true art. Ultimately, it is the artist that determines how good the art is. A great artist can also make great art under less than ideal circumstances. Likewise, (assuming your camera isn't junk) what really makes a good photograph often has more to do with the photographer than the camera.
I don't consider myself a professional, but a student. My interest is mostly exploratory at this time. I have been taking pictures for a decade now and the love of it only grows.
